Technician Licensing Class
This accelerated two‑day program provides a fast‑paced but easy‑to-follow introduction to the world of amateur radio.  Over the course of the weekend, students learn the essential concepts, rules, and operating skills needed to become confident new radio operators.  The class is designed specifically for beginners, so no background in electronics, engineering, or radio communication is required.  By the end of the course, participants are fully prepared to take—and pass—the FCC Technician‑class license exam, which is offered immediately after the final class session.

Class Dates & Schedule:
Our next Technician Licensing Class will be held on Saturday March 14th, and Sunday March 15th.

Saturday from 8am to 5pm.
Sunday from 8am to 3pm, with the exam given from 3pm to 5pm.

Location:
Our Technician Licensing Class will be held in the Pyramid Event Center at the Thornton F. McElroy Lodge in Federal Way.  The lodge is located at 1700 South 340th Street, Federal Way, WA  98003.

Costs:
  • Technician licensing class is FREE.
  • Testing session after the class is $15 per session.  You can take just the Technician Class exam, or you can take all three exams (Technician, General, and Extra Class) should you feel ready.
  • FCC registration is FREE.
  • FCC license application fee is $35.
FCC Registration Number (FRN):
An FCC Registration Number (FRN) is basically a simple 10‑digit ID you need anytime you interact with the Federal Communications Commission. If you ever apply for a radio license, pay a fee, or fill out certain forms, this number helps the FCC keep everything organized. You get your FRN through the FCC’s online CORES system, and it’s required whether you’re signing up as an individual or a business.  Please register for a FRN prior to taking our Technician Licensing Class.  Once you have passed your test(s), the FCC will get in touch with you directly advising of any licensing fees that are applicable.
