11th Annual Miles For Meso 5K Fun Run
About this event
The Federal Way Community Center event organizers are asking for ham radio support to provide course surveillance should any issues arise with participants. Radio operators will be positioned across the course to keep watch on the participants and report their position. Show time at the FW Community Center is 8:15am on the 4th of July. Radio operators should have a fully charged set of batteries for their radio, and a high visibility vest, if available.
From the Miles for Meso web page:
The Miles for Meso WA Memorial 5K Run/Walk will return for its eleventh year to the scenic Federal Way, Washington, on July 4. This event is held in memory of Dick Dyhrman, a geologist with Weyerhaeuser Company; Bud Hatley, Federal Way School District Athletic Director; Bob Stewart, Federal Way High School teacher and coach; and other Washington residents who have lost their lives to mesothelioma.
The mission of this event is to raise awareness for mesothelioma, a fatal cancer caused by asbestos exposure. This year, organizers aim to raise $20,000 through registration fees and donations, with all proceeds benefiting the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. The 5K course will take participants along the BPA Trail and through Celebration Park, offering stunning views of Mount Rainier.
